RULES This race will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing 2001-2004, the Prescriptions and Special Regulations of the AYF, the rules of the relevant classes (except as any of these are altered by the sailing instructions) and by this notice. RACE CATEGORY. Yachts will be required to meet the equipment and accopmmodation standards set out in Racing Rules of Safety 2001-2004, Special Regulation Part 1, Cat 6, with marine radio of at least 27 MHz frequency installed. A suitable auxiliary engine, effective against the tides in the area is required, mounted in its normal operating position. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Each yacht will have a minimum crew of three and a maximum of eight. Each boat must enter a team of two runners for each running stage. Runners do not necessarily have to be the same on all running legs and sailors may be used as runners if desired. The times of both runners must count and the non completion of either on any of the legs will disqualify that yacht. It is expected that all participants will compete in a sportsmanlike and fair manner: That is skippers when motoring will follow the normal navigation approaches to Rhyll and Newhaven and abide by any local speed limit. Runners must keep to the designated paths. (no shortcuts) As the sections of the course designated for motoring and manoeuvring do not count as part of the yachts time for safety reasons, it is expected that yachts will not unduly delay the race during these periods. Yachts are expected to promptly enter their runners to the running course immediately upon reaching the Rhyll or Newhaven sections. COURSES, HANDICAPS & SCORING: No handicap will be applied to the running legs. For sailing legs yachts will be handicapped based on their current club performance handicap at the time of the event. The NYS Handicapper will have sole discretion on handicapping. An honour system of scoring is to be used for this event and skippers are asked to record the sailing and running leg times in ordinary time ( Daylight Saving Time ) to the nearest second as detailed in the sailing instructions. Points will be allocated for the running and sailing legs and added up to generate a team score for each boat. Courses for running and sailing legs are as described in the sailing instructions. LIABILITY AND INDEMNITY The attached entry form must be signed by the entering skipper and all runners who will be participating in the running legs. All boats must pass the signed indemnity to the OOD or starting marshal prior to the running start at Cowes. The finish will be at the East gate of the Newhaven clubhouse. A boat / crew will be deemed to have finished when both runners from that boat complete the course. Crews should note that due to a disparity of boat speed and running performance it is expected that the finishers will be somewhat spread out at the completion in Newhaven. However, due to boat speed handicapping the first runners to finish may not necessarily be the winning team on handicap. PRESENTATION AND BYO BBQ: At Newhaven Yacht Squadron after the race. All entrants and visitors welcome. Some food will be available for sale. RACE CANCELLATION OR SHORTENING COURSE: A cancellation may occur If gale warnings are current or because of lack of wind. Yachts may be asked to bypass a mark, or the race may be shortened by the removal of any of the legs or a running leg may be shortened. The OOD will give plenty of notice by radio on 27.94 Mhz which must be acknowledged by all entrants. Because of the nature of the race, if a leg is deleted during the race, it will be necessary for all skippers to motor or shorten sail across the leg keeping to shelter if necessary. Skippers are asked to note Racing Rules of Sailing Fundamental Rule 4: The responsibility for a boats decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone.
